The views from this stone-clad villa are breathtaking. Perched on a hillside overlooking Zahara Lake and the mountains of the Sierra Margarita, this home invites you to soak up the wide-sweeping scenery in all its glory from the patio, grounds and private pool. While the interior isn’t half as spectacular as the villa’s surroundings, terracotta floors, exposed beams and a Spanish-style hearth in the living room add a touch of rustic, traditional charm. When it comes to exploring nearby, you’ll find local amenities in the village of El Gastor (2km away), while the whitewashed town of Zahara de la Sierra is a drive around the other side of the lake, and Ronda is thirty minutes away by car.

Home truths

This home is laid out across a single level, so it may be suitable for those with reduced mobility.

The decor here is rather basic. Those looking for a more luxurious stay may wish to look elsewhere.

The swimming pool isn't fenced. If you're bringing little ones, they'll need to be supervised at all times.

There's no dedicated desk. However, the dining table doubles up as a laptop-friendly workspace. The internet here is supplied via a satellite connection.

As this home is in a protected area of natural beauty, barbecues aren't allowed from early June and throughout the summer. Your host provides an electric 'plancha' instead.

We recommend having a car here. Private on-site parking is available.

Madrid, right in the heart of the country, is packed with museums and galleries, none more famous than the sprawling Prado. Gaudi’s canvas, Barcelona, is a city of spellbinding architecture like a lucid dream, and winding gothic streets rammed with wine bars. Foodies flock to...
